We will have several worship experiences on Zoom this week as we celebrate Holy Week and Easter together. Because we are not able to meet in person, we will be gathering over Zoom and then the recordings will be posted on the church’s facebook page and website soon afterward. As always, all are welcome to join in our worship experiences.
We will celebrate three days of Holy Week together: Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. This year those dates fall on the 9th, 10th, and 11th of April. Each evening at 6:00 we will gather around our computers and join in a devotional together. Follow this link to find the devotionals https://www.pcusa.org/site_media/media/uploads/covid-19/home_worship_for_the_three_days_2020.pdf. You can have it up on your computer or you can print it off ahead of time. Follow this link to connect to the worship experience each evening https://zoom.us/j/980537283. The link will be the same all three nights. On Thursday you are encouraged to have dinner at 6:00 around your computer so we can all enjoy a meal together while we worship in honor and remembrance of the Last Supper, and then we will do our devotional. On Friday and Saturday, we will still meet at 6:00 but join in the devotional without a meal. Please contact Kelsey with any questions or for more information on how to connect to Zoom.
On Easter, we will have three opportunities to worship together. Kelsey will be at the beach on Easter morning around 6:30 for the sunrise. She will be on facebook live recording worship from Nye Beach. All are welcome to get on facebook and join her. This will be posted to the website later that morning for those who missed it. Then we will gather on Zoom at 10:00 for worship. You can join this worship experience by following this link https://zoom.us/j/444725404 or watching it on the website later that day. You can also join in worship nationally with all those in the PC(USA) by going to their website. There will be an Easter worship service recorded there starting April 9th. Everyone is encouraged to join in all three experiences.
It is strange and disorienting for all of us that we can’t celebrate Holy Week and Easter in the ways we are accustomed to, but we thank God that we are able to celebrate the resurrection of Christ in new and creative ways. I encourage everyone to call or Zoom their family, whom they may be separated, from for Easter Dinner. Or you can have a physical distancing dinner with your neighbors in the street or your driveways. We may not be able to celebrate with our families the same way this year, but we have the opportunity to celebrate with the people right around us in our neighborhoods. They can’t meet with their families either, so how can we organize a time for all of us to be together with each other as we have to be separated from family? Let’s get creative. The weather in Newport is supposed to be nice on Easter, so we have that going for us! With each obstacle, there is an opportunity for a fresh perspective and a new way of doing things. This Easter we get to share the good news of the resurrection of Jesus Christ in new ways with those around us. Hallelujah!
On a different note, we wanted to thank the community of God’s gathered people here in Newport for your continued giving. The church is struggling financially, and with the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions in our community, we are facing even more struggles. But we are elated to let you all know that your giving has been faithful in the last few weeks, despite all of life’s uncertainties. Thank you for your stewardship as God’s gathered people, especially at this time. Please continue to give through PayPal, mailing a check, or dropping off a check in the mailbox by the church’s playground.
We can’t wait to proclaim in just a few days: Christ has Risen! Christ has risen indeed!
